With an initial output of 4,750 tonnes, the integrated site ispart of a larger project at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park(SCIP) and the investment was totalling a low double-digit million EUR amount. It covers an area of 1.16 hectares and can increase its output to over 20,000 tonnes over time with a focuson the production of silicone additives.

Grolman Group and Elementis have signed an exclusive distribution agreement for the Elementis Talc range for the CAS industry in UK and Ireland. Another new distribution agreement covers Elementis’ range of rheological additives, wetting & dispersing agents and specialty additives. Grolman will distribute these products in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, Bulgaria and Northern-Macedonia.

Curing-induced internal stresses in epoxy coatings are highly influenced by the type and concentration of product ingredients and the conditions applied.In the new work, the effects on the internal stress development of the epoxy/ crosslinker chemistry, curing temperature, relative humidity, filler conditions, and initial solvent concentration, are studied. An elevated curing temperature (35 or 45 °C) resulted in a smaller elastic modulus and, despite an accelerated curing reaction and a higher final reactant conversion, only a slight increase, around 0.2 MPa, in the average internal stress.
WOOD-POLYMER COMPOSITE:DECORATIVE AND LONG-LASTING
The coatability of commercial WPC and its behaviour in outdoor applications was investigated as part of an EU-funded research project. A long-term study of hydro-2K-PU/hydro-UV coatings (2K-PU/UV) and the influence of binder type, pigmentation and mechanical properties of the binder was carried out. Wood-polymer composites (WPC) with polyethylene (PE) and softwood fibres represent a group of materials for durable, decorative outdoor applications.

Environmental and resource concerns have revealed a pressing need for bio-based reactive diluents in UV-curable coatings. 1,3-PDODMA could be the answer.
ANALYSIS :COUNTING CRATERS
Routine laboratory work is often time-consuming and can limit the scope for innovation. Such work includes analysing and evaluating coated samples for the purpose of selecting ideal formulations. A digital assistant for complex evaluations would increase the efficiency of these tasks and enable coating defects to be quantified objectively.

Many years ago, cellulose derivatives served as the basic binders for solvent-borne nitrocellulose paints, but nowadays much more advanced cellulose derivatives are acting as key additives for high-performance water-borne latex paints for architectural applications.

A novel multifunctional calcium silicate hydrate filler package improves essential DIN EN 13300 classification criteria for hiding power, wet scrub resistance and matting of interior wall paints. Morphology and particle size distribution can be tweaked to customise paint properties.

IRL completed its annual architectural coatings reports programme in May 2022. From IRL research we estimated the global architectural coatings market at 33.4 million metric tonnes sold in 2021 and a market value of EUR 67.4 billion which assumes a global average price of EUR 2.02/kg.
